After the prior study regarding the current economical situation in the continent of Africa from McKinsey & Company, comes another big management consulting firms take on the emerging market of Africa. It’s time for Boston Consulting Group to tell the world about the current status of the African economy, which they believe is overshadowed by Asia in the east and, to a lesser degree, by South America to the west. Over the last decade however, Africa has begun to emerge.

2 weeks ago the White House blog acknowledged a number of individuals who are using technology to nurture local innovation in Africa. Some of the groups mentioned were Hive Colab and Appfrica in Uganda, Ushahidi and the iHub in Kenya, Limbe Labs in Cameroon, and Sodnet, Kenya’s Civil Society Organization.

Now, almost a month after the final whistle is blown and the Spanish footballteam stands as the World Champions in the World Cup in South Africa 2010. We’re now looking back at the Positives and Negatives and the fact that there was only one African team that had the stamina, team-spirit and a deadly striker that had the chance to put an African team to the Semi-Finals for the first time ever. The fact that FIFA banned all small entrepreneurs around the Stadiums is the most negative aspect of the World Cup in South Africa.

During this week Africa’s Potential and more then 130 trade commissioners, ambassadors, innovators and entrepreneurs were invited to take part of SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) conference in Härnösand, the northern part of Sweden. SIDAs new initiative, the launching of the new program Business For Development (B4D). The focus of this conference aimed towards reaching out to Clean Tech, Creative & Innovative ideas in order to fight poverty in a more effective way.
During this conference world known speakers and innovators held seminars, such as Mr Günther Pauli (see the Youtube video below) Founder of the ZERI Foundation (Zero Emissions Research & Initiatives), which is a global network of creative minds seeking solutions to world challenges. The common vision shared by the members of the ZERI family is to view waste as resource and seek solutions using nature’s design principles as inspiration. He’s also the author of the Blue Economy book, which is reaching out regarding a new business model to inspire entrepreneurs to shape a new economy based on competative innovations, creating JOBS and SOCIAL CAPITAL.
