Social Entrepreneur of the Year – Africa – 2010
Do you know a leading social entrepreneur? Are you a social entrepreneur?
Social entrepreneurs are innovators who implement practical and sustainable solutions to address problems in numerous areas including health, education, environment, access to technology and job creation. Whether they are set up as for profit or not-for-profit organizations, their primary focus is transformational and systemic social change. Social entrepreneurs aim for sustainability, typically through the sale of products or services, fees or key partnerships with companies or governments.
The Search and Selection process for the Social Entrepreneur of the Year was established to recognize outstanding social entrepreneurs around the globe, an initiative of The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. The Regional Search in Africa is open to all organizations whose headquarters are based in an Sub-Saharan African country (except South Africa where a national competition takes place annually). For countries in North Africa, please see our selection website at http://www.schwabfoundseoy.org.
Benefits.
The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and the World Economic Forum seek to recognize and award leading social entrepreneurs in Africa. The awarded candidates will be invited to the World Economic Forum on Africa, 5 – 7 May 2010, providing unprecedented opportunities to engage global and regional decision takers from the public, corporate, media and academic sectors to strengthen and expand their models and organizations. The winners will also be included in the Schwab Foundation’s network of social entrepreneurs. This includes access to a peer network of social entrepreneurs, special benefits such as pro-bono consulting services and scholarships to executive education courses at world-class institutions such as Harvard Business School, Stanford University and INSEAD.
Outstanding finalists or winners under 40 will also be nominated to the Young Global Leaders network of the World Economic Forum. World-class social entrepreneurs will be invited to join the global social entrepreneur community, which includes the possibility to be invited to the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos and to contribute to the Global Agenda Councils of the Forum.
